SEMINAR ON CRITICAL THINKING WITH THE INSTITUTE OF PHILOSOPHICAL PRACTICE
March 25 & 26th, VIENNA
Do you face difficulties in making decisions? How do you recognize problems in people's speeches and in your own? How to communicate more clearly with yourself and others? How to improve your thinking? How can you distinguish weak from strong arguments? How can you build good questions?
Leila Millon and Sara Dorrego, from the Institute of Philosophical Practices (based in Paris), invite you to participate in a weekend seminar in english on the practice of critical thinking, in collaboration with two of their students, Marianne Gamsjäger and Peter Eschner.
This seminar will be a valuable opportunity to exercise your thinking and challenge your limits.
In this workshop, we will practice critical thinking through intensive interactive exercises on: listening, reformulating, expressing oneself clearly, recognizing logical fallacies, in addition to exercising the ability to present strong arguments and learn to ask clear questions... and other basic thinking skills and thinking competencies (argumentation, interpretation, problematization, conceptualization and questioning).
During this seminar, through different exercises, participants will be invited to engage in a thinking process that will allow them to engage in a dialogue, to learn to confront themselves to others' thoughts, realize that their own speech has meaning not only for them, but also for the others. This process involves both a work on attitudes: being patient, listening, taking distance with oneself, respecting the other’s speech, assuming responsibility for our own speech. And on the cognitive level, it’s necessary to develop various skills: research the meaning of words, identify problems, provide reasoned answers, make judgments, give examples, and practice critical thinking. But above all, it is a matter of making the joyful experience of thought and the freedom that it represents.
This seminar does not require previous philosophical training. It can be an initiation to philosophical practice, or a deepening of the activity.
When: Saturday and Sunday, March 25th and 26th, from 10 A.M. - 6 P.M. (with breaks). We will as well propose a public consultation Saturday evening, from 7.30 to 9 P.M.
